Kefas Presents N650bn ‘Development We Can See’ Budget to Taraba Assembly

Gov. Agbu Kefas of Taraba State on Wednesday presented a budget estimate of over ₦650 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to the Taraba State House of Assembly, describing it as a pragmatic plan aimed at delivering visible development across the state.

Presenting the Appropriation Bill before lawmakers in Jalingo, the governor said the budget is anchored on “truth, impact, and tangible transformation,” reflecting his administration’s continued commitment to infrastructure renewal and human capital development.

According to the breakdown, the proposed budget contains a capital expenditure of more than ₦457 billion, representing 70.36 per cent, while recurrent expenditure is pegged at ₦192 billion, representing 29.64 per cent.

He said the significant allocation to capital projects underscores the state government’s resolve to accelerate infrastructural growth, expand economic opportunities, and improve service delivery.

Gov. Kefas noted that priority sectors in the 2026 fiscal plan include roads and transportation, education, and healthcare, which he described as critical to the state’s long-term development.

“This budget is a Development We Can See because it is designed to deliver measurable and impactful progress in all parts of the state,” he said. “Our focus is on projects that will touch lives directly and stimulate inclusive growth.”

The governor assured the Assembly that the proposed projects under the budget would be implemented with transparency and fiscal discipline, urging lawmakers to support the government’s vision for a modern and prosperous Taraba.

The Speaker of the Assembly, in his remarks, commended the governor for sustaining a development-driven budgeting approach, adding that the House would give the proposal due consideration.
