
The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of five officers and the injury of two others during an ambush by armed attackers in Sabon Sara village, Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the Command described the incident as “unfortunate and tragic,” noting that the officers were attacked during an intelligence-led visibility patrol aimed at preventing and managing farmer–herder conflict in the area.
According to the statement, the attack occurred on 22 November 2025 at about 12:40 p.m. following intelligence received from a Good Samaritan alerting the Command that a team of tactical personnel on patrol had come under sudden fire from unidentified Fulani youths.
The combined team—drawn from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), 10 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) and the State Intelligence Department (SID)—ran into the ambush at about 11:30 a.m.
The Command confirmed the death of the following officers:
1. DSP Ahmad Muhammad (SID)
2. ASP Mustapha Muhammad (10 PMF)
3. Inspector Amarhel Yunusa (10 PMF)
4. Inspector Idris Ahmed (10 PMF)
5. Corporal Isah Muazu (AKU)
Two officers sustained injuries:
1. Inspector Isah Musa (SID)
2. Inspector Yusuf Gambo (SID)
The Divisional Police Officer in Darazo, SP Auwalu Ilu, led a reinforcement team to the location, rescuing the injured personnel and evacuating the deceased to the General Hospital, Darazo.
The Command noted that while a number of the attackers were neutralised during the gun duel, efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining perpetrators.
Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He assured residents that the Command remains resolute in tackling criminality despite the challenges.
“The task has not been an easy one, but in line with our constitutional mandate, we shall remain fierce, tireless, and relentless in our commitment to the safety and security of lives and property,” the statement added.
The Command urged members of the public to continue supporting security efforts through timely information.
