Sports development is gaining renewed momentum in Yobe as Gov. Mai Mala Buni intensifies efforts to reposition the sector through the massive remodelling of the Damaturu Township Stadium.
The remodelling, currently ongoing, is transforming the once-aging facility into a modern sports arena designed to host major sporting events and support the grooming of athletic talent across the state.
A night view of the stadium highlights the scale and quality of work being carried out, reflecting the administration’s resolve to upgrade critical sports infrastructure.
In addition to the Damaturu project, the governor has commenced the construction of a new state-of-the-art stadium in Buni Yadi, further reinforcing his commitment to inclusive development across all zones of the state.
The projects are aimed at boosting sporting activities, promoting youth engagement and fostering unity and social cohesion, especially in the post-insurgency recovery phase.
Government officials said the provision of modern and safe recreational facilities would serve as rallying points for youths, encourage peace-building and strengthen communal ties.
The investments, they added, align with the Buni administration’s broader vision of using sports as a tool for healing, empowerment and sustainable socio-economic development, while consolidating peace across Yobe State.
