The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid ul Adha celebration.
The declaration was announced on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the government said the declaration reflects its respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world observing the festival.
The minister congratulated Muslim faithful in the country and in the diaspora, describing Eid ul Adha as a period that symbolises sacrifice, obedience to God and compassion toward humanity.
He urged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for the country and seek divine guidance as the nation continues efforts toward peace, security and prosperity.
Tunji-Ojo also called for unity, brotherhood and peaceful coexistence among citizens, while wishing Muslims a peaceful and joyous celebration.
