Farmers across Yobe State are set to benefit from a reduction in tractor hiring charges following the approval by Governor Mai Mala Buni of a 50 per cent cut in the cost of accessing mechanised farming services.

The Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Mohammed Goje, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the fee for hiring tractors had been reduced from N100,000 to N50,000.

Goje said the decision was part of the state government’s efforts to ease the burden on farmers, encourage agricultural activities and boost food production across the state.

According to him, the reduction will enable more farmers to access mechanised farming services, cultivate larger areas of land and improve productivity during the current farming season.

He noted that the intervention would also reduce the cost of cultivation, increase agricultural output and strengthen food security in the state.

The acting SSG said the administration of Gov. Buni had continued to prioritise agriculture through sustained investments in farm machinery, improved seeds, fertilisers and other support programmes designed to empower farmers and stimulate rural economic growth.

He explained that making tractor services more affordable would encourage greater participation in farming activities and help farmers maximise yields.

Goje reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing policies and programmes that support agricultural development, create employment opportunities and improve the livelihoods of residents.

He added that the measure was expected to provide timely support to farmers as the rainy season farming activities gather momentum across the state.
