Bauchi Police Arrest One Over Killing of Former LG Chairman

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the killing of a former Chairman of Jama’are Local Government Area, Mr Isa Muhammad Wabi.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Bauchi on Friday.

Wakil said the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday at the Fadaman Mada area, behind Government Girls Secondary School, Bauchi.

He said the Command received a distress call at about 4:03 a.m. regarding an attack on Mr Wabi by a group of youths.

“Upon receiving the report, a team of police operatives was drafted to the scene where they found the victim in critical condition with multiple stab wounds to the neck,” he said.

Wakil said the victim was immediately taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was confirmed dead.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the attack was allegedly carried out by acquaintances of the deceased’s son, Abdulgafar Isa Mohammed, aged 24.

He identified the suspects as Ahmad Abdulkadir, also known as Abba, and Faruk Malami, alias Ajebo, who reportedly entered the residence around 3:00 a.m. and conspired to assault the victim.

“One of the suspects, Faruk Malami, was found unconscious at the scene, possibly as a result of a retaliatory act. He was taken to the hospital where he was later confirmed dead,” the statement added.

Wakil said the son of the deceased was in custody and had been assisting the police with vital information.

He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani Omolori Aliyu, had visited the family of the deceased and assured them that the command would conduct a discreet investigation to ensure justice.

The police spokesman said efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspects linked to the incident.
