The Nigerian Army has clarified concerns over the status of its Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, following the establishment of a new Special Forces Command Headquarters in Doma, Nasarawa State.
The clarification became necessary after the commissioning of the Special Forces Command Headquarters by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. OO Oluyede, on Aug. 15, which raised speculations about the relocation of the Buni Yadi facility.
Brig.-Gen. Abdulsalam Dahiru (rtd), Special Adviser on Security Matters to Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, in a statement on Saturday, explained that the Buni Yadi school was not being moved.
According to him, the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi has been responsible for acclimatisation and pre-induction training for troops deployed to the North-East theatre of operations, while specialised training was conducted in other facilities.
He said the establishment of the Special Forces Command in Doma necessitated the co-location of a Special Forces School with the headquarters, hence the foundation laying ceremony performed by the Chief of Army Staff in Nasarawa State.
“For clarity, the school in Buni Yadi is now designated as the Nigerian Army Acclimatisation Centre and will continue to prepare forces for induction into the theatre of operations,” he said.
Dahiru assured that the Buni Yadi centre remained functional and firmly located in Yobe, urging citizens to disregard speculations about its relocation.
“We appreciate the genuine concerns expressed by well-meaning citizens and acknowledge the support our troops continue to enjoy from the people of Yobe State,” he added.
