Doctors at the General Hospital, Bama, have successfully reattached the genitals of a 50-year-old man who attempted suicide by mutilating himself.

The man, identified as Modu Isa of Hausari Ward, reportedly stabbed himself three times in the stomach before cutting off his genitals on Friday evening.

Witnesses said Isa took the action following a dispute with his estranged wife, Bayanxe Modu, who refused to remarry him after their separation.

“He said if Bayanxe cannot have him, then his gbola too must go,” a neighbour told reporters.

Medical personnel described the operation to reattach the organ as successful, noting that the patient is now responding to treatment.

“His condition has stabilised, and the surgery to restore the severed organ was successful,” a hospital source confirmed.

The incident has generated mixed reactions within the community, with some residents expressing sympathy while others reacted with disbelief and humour.

Security sources said the case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri for further investigation.

An elderly resident of Bama, reacting to the development, remarked: “Only in Borno can a man lose his gbola on Friday and get it back on Sunday.”
