
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, has flagged off a vaccination campaign against rabies and DHLPP at the University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
The exercise, held on Thursday, is aimed at protecting the university community including students, staff, and animals from the deadly effects of rabies and other infectious diseases.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Professor Mele emphasized the importance of the vaccines in preventing the spread of rabies and other zoonotic diseases, particularly those transmitted by dogs. He urged members of the University of Maiduguri community to take advantage of the programme and ensure their pets are vaccinated.
The Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Professor Maryam Bukar Kolo, commended the University Management for sponsoring the initiative, noting that it would go a long way in strengthening public health and safety on campus.
The highlight of the event was the symbolic flag-off of the vaccination exercise by the Vice-Chancellor.
