Ndume Commends Zulum, Military Over Troop Deployment to Kirawa

Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC-Borno South) has commended Gov. Babagana Zulum and troops of Operation Hadin Kai for their swift response to the displacement crisis in Kirawa, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday in Maiduguri, Ndume said the intervention followed renewed attacks by Boko Haram insurgents, which forced residents, including the District Head, Alhaji Abubakar Abdulraham, to flee to neighbouring Cameroon.

He said the deployment of troops and planned infrastructure projects in the area were timely and necessary to restore normalcy.

“I commend Governor Zulum and the military for their prompt action in visiting the displaced community and pledging to deploy troops for protection.

“The governor also approved the construction of a hospital, water facilities, and other essential infrastructure for Kirawa and surrounding areas,” he said.

Ndume, who is the former Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, stressed the importance of community support in the fight against insurgency.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and share timely information with security agencies to enhance operations against insurgents.

“Without support from the public, the government and military alone cannot end the over-a-decade-long insurgency in the North East,” he added.

Kirawa is one of several border communities in Borno State affected by the Boko Haram insurgency, with repeated attacks leading to displacement of residents.
