
The Adamawa State Police Command says it has arrested a 19-year-old suspect in connection with alleged possession of hard drugs and dangerous weapons as part of ongoing operations against Shilla gang-related activities in the state.
The suspect, identified as Haruna Yau, a resident of Jambutu Nafan in Yola North Local Government Area, was apprehended by operatives during a routine patrol along the Doubeli Bypass in Jimeta.
According to a statement by the Command, a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of suspected illicit substances, including Tramadol (100mg) and Diazepam tablets, as well as a knife and a pair of scissors.
The police said the arrest forms part of sustained efforts to curb gangsterism and other criminal activities associated with Shilla groups within Yola and its environs.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements and ensuring public safety and security.
He urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to aid ongoing crime prevention efforts.
The Command added that the suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
