The Department of State Services (DSS) has released a young man, Ya’u Mohammed, from Gashua in Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State, after investigations cleared him of any wrongdoing.

The DSS also provided the youth with N2 million to support his reintegration into society and help him establish a livelihood for himself and his family.

The Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Yobe State Governor, Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), disclosed this during a visit to the DSS Yobe State Command Headquarters in Damaturu.

Abdulsalam said the visit was aimed at ascertaining the circumstances surrounding the detention and eventual release of the young man.

According to him, further investigations and internal reviews by the service confirmed that Mohammed had no involvement in the alleged offence for which he was earlier detained.

He described the development as unprecedented in his decades of public service, noting that he had never witnessed a situation where a suspect was not only released after being cleared, but also provided with financial support for reintegration.

The retired general said the gesture reflected the commitment of the Director-General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Ajayi, to justice, compassion and rehabilitation.

He also urged security agencies to continue upholding the rule of law and respecting fundamental human rights to strengthen public trust and cooperation.

Speaking shortly after his release, Mohammed expressed gratitude to God and appreciated the DSS leadership for the support extended to him.

He pledged to make judicious use of the funds to establish a sustainable means of livelihood and support his family.

Mohammed’s father, Alhaji Muhammadu, expressed appreciation to the DSS leadership for what he described as a compassionate intervention during the reunion with his son.
