The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, has assured residents of the North East of adequate security arrangements ahead of the Eid El Kabir 1447AH celebrations scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Theatre Command, the military extended felicitations to Muslim faithful and wished residents of the region a peaceful and joyful celebration.
The Command disclosed that comprehensive security measures had already been activated across the theatre to safeguard lives and property throughout the festive period.
According to the statement, credible intelligence indicated possible attempts by remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province to exploit the celebrations by carrying out isolated attacks on civilian targets using suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices, particularly in densely populated areas.
However, the Theatre Command assured residents that the threats had been anticipated and countermeasures fully implemented.
It noted that troops had been forward-deployed to critical and vulnerable locations across all sectors, while surveillance and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets had been fully activated.
The Command further stated that patrols had been intensified, with security forces working closely with sister agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force and community vigilance groups to prevent any security breach during the celebrations.
Operation HADIN KAI advised residents to conduct Eid prayers and festivities close to their homes and familiar localities while avoiding large open gatherings where possible.
The military also urged members of the public to remain vigilant in crowded places such as markets, motor parks, banking halls and prayer grounds, and to promptly report suspicious persons, unattended objects or unusual movements to security agencies.
Residents were equally encouraged to cooperate with security personnel during patrols and screening operations, avoid unnecessary night movements and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.
The Command called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations and community stakeholders to sensitise their communities and support ongoing security efforts through timely reporting of credible intelligence.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed that troops remained fully prepared and committed to denying terrorists any freedom of action while ensuring that the Eid El Kabir celebrations are held in an atmosphere of peace, safety and dignity across the North East.
