
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election after securing 10.9 million votes in the party’s nationwide primary election.
The Chairman of the APC Presidential Primary Election Committee, Anyim Pius Anyim, announced the result on Sunday at the International Conference Centre.
Anyim said Tinubu won overwhelmingly in the exercise conducted across the party’s 8,809 wards and 774 local government areas on Saturday.
He described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and reflective of the confidence party members had in the president’s leadership.
According to him, the total valid votes recorded stood at 10.9 million, with Tinubu emerging unopposed in the contest.
The announcement was witnessed by party leaders, governors, members of the National Working Committee, delegates and supporters who thronged the venue.
Speaking shortly after the declaration, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to consolidate on the administration’s ongoing reforms.
He called for unity within the APC ahead of the 2027 general election and urged members to remain committed to the party’s ideals.
