15 victims rescued, others flee captivity after Ngoshe attack

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have rescued 15 persons abducted by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents in Borno.

The victims, comprising women and children, were said to have regained freedom following a coordinated military operation that led to the recapture of a military base in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area.

Security sources said the abductees escaped from captivity shortly after troops dislodged the insurgents from the area.

The rescue followed a recent attack on Ngoshe community by fighters linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP, which reportedly resulted in several deaths and the abduction of more than 300 women and children.

According to the sources, some of the victims have been returning in batches to safety, with many arriving at Pulka town, where displaced persons are taking refuge under military protection.

“The victims are finding their way back as troops sustain clearance operations in the area,” a source said.

Military authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

However, efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining captives and restore normalcy in affected communities.
