The Borno State Police Command has arrested a 15-year-old girl for allegedly dumping a newborn baby in a pit toilet at the Charamari Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Monguno Local Government Area.
Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the incident on Friday via his official X handle, stating that the act occurred in the early hours of Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Yafalmata Alhaji Mustapha, a resident of the camp, was taken into custody after the baby’s body was discovered by residents.
“Police personnel and medical experts visited the scene and took photographs before evacuating the body to the General Hospital, Monguno,” Makama said.
A medical doctor at the hospital confirmed the infant dead on arrival. The remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital’s morgue for an autopsy.
Following medical examination, the corpse was released to the Chairman of the Charamari IDP Camp for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Police authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
