
At least sixteen prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members reportedly lost their lives, while two others sustained critical injuries in a tragic accident on their way to the Gombe orientation camp.
The victims were said to be graduates of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo State, and were among the 2025 Batch C corps members posted to serve in Gombe State. Details about the circumstances leading to the accident are yet to be confirmed.
Eyewitnesses reported that the accident occurred when the vehicle conveying the graduates reportedly veered off the road. Rescue operations were immediately launched, and the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
The Gombe State NYSC office has issued a statement expressing deep condolences to the families of the victims and assured that all necessary support would be provided to the affected corps members and their families.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident. The NYSC management has also appealed to all corps members to exercise caution during travel to prevent such tragedies.
