23 killed, 108 injured in Maiduguri triple bomb blasts, police confirm

The Borno State Police Command has confirmed that no fewer than 23 persons were killed while 108 others sustained injuries following three suspected suicide bomb explosions in Maiduguri, the Borno capital.

The incidents occurred at about 7:24 p.m. on Monday at the Monday Market Maiduguri, the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office Flyover Maiduguri.

Police said preliminary investigation indicated that the attacks were carried out by suspected suicide bombers.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said emergency responders swiftly moved victims from the scenes to hospitals for treatment.

Following the explosions, security operatives including police tactical teams, the military and other joint forces were deployed to the affected locations.

The areas were secured and cordoned off while the police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit conducted sweep operations to ensure that no additional explosive devices were left behind.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Naziru Abdulmajid, also visited the affected locations to assess the situation and ongoing response efforts.

He commiserated with families of the deceased and those injured, assuring residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

The police said normalcy had been restored in the affected areas, while security presence and surveillance had been intensified across the city to prevent further incidents.

Authorities urged residents to remain calm but vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movement or objects to security agencies as investigations continue.
