The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has awarded scholarships to six students of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State.
The beneficiaries have either lost their sponsors or come from less privileged homes.
Two of the awardees, Ahmad Shehu Idris, whose father died; and Olagunju Michael Femi, both of civil engineering department, with 4.66 CGPA and 4.68 CGPA respectively, received N200,000 each from the ASUU National Indigent Students Scholarship.
Others are Okuns David Donatus, Egbunu Hassan James, Ajibola Christiana Olalade and Medina Aneru, who got N50,000 each.
The ASUU Chairman, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof Bolarin Gbolahan, said the beneficiaries were selected for the scholarship because of their good academic records but that they were on the verge of dropping out due to financial difficulties.
He said 17 students applied for the scholarship but that only six scaled through the screening process.
Presenting the cheques to the beneficiaries, the ASUU National President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, charged them to make ASUU proud by maintaining good standards throughout their years of studies.
