A total of 600 Tsangaya and Islamiyah teachers in Borno are currently undergoing a two-week “Train-the-Trainers” training programme in partnership with the Nigeria Arabic Language Village (NALV), Ngala.
The training, with the theme “Empowering Educators, Strengthening Communities,” is aimed at building the capacity of Islamic education teachers across the state.
The Executive Director of NALV, Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim, said the programme was designed to equip teachers with modern teaching techniques, improve literacy, and foster community development.
Ibrahim said the training modules cover pedagogy, curriculum delivery, psychosocial support, civic education, and integration of digital skills in traditional Islamic schools.
“The initiative is not just about education but about empowering teachers to contribute meaningfully to peacebuilding and social development in their communities,” he said.
He added that the participants were drawn from different local government areas of Borno, and would be expected to replicate the training in their respective schools.
Some of the teachers who spoke to Insight Northeast expressed appreciation to the organisers.
One of them, Malam Yusuf Garba from Monguno, said the training would help teachers adopt new and more effective teaching methods.
The programme is expected to end with a certification ceremony and the establishment of a peer training network among Tsangaya and Islamiyah institutions in Borno.
