Borno Begins Three-Day Digital Skills Assessment in 10 LGAs

The Borno State Government has commenced a three-day digital skills assessment across 10 Local Government Areas as part of efforts to deepen digital inclusion and enhance ICT competence among residents.

The assessment, which began on November 17 and is scheduled to run until November 19, is being conducted simultaneously at Digital Literacy Centres in Magumeri, Bayo, Kaga, Gubio, Monguno, Dikwa, Damboa, Damasak, Mafa and Nganzai.

The exercise targets Out-of-School Children, adults and Local Government staff enrolled in the centres. It forms part of a broader initiative implemented by the Borno State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (BICTDA) to strengthen digital capacity and expand access to ICT education across the state.

The programme aligns with the digital transformation agenda of Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum, whose administration has continued to establish and operationalise Digital Literacy Centres to promote technology-driven development.

Speaking on the exercise, the Digital Literacy Programme Coordinator at BICTDA, Goni Mala Atuman, said the assessment was designed to ensure participants acquire practical ICT skills required in today’s digital economy.

“This assessment broadens access to digital literacy and ensures practical ICT competencies for today’s economy,” Atuman said.

The Executive Secretary of BICTDA, Engr. Kabir Mohammed Wanori, reaffirmed government’s commitment to expanding digital learning opportunities.

“Under Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s leadership, we are delivering inclusive digital education that drives sustainable development and opportunity for all communities in Borno State,” Wanori said.

The three-day assessment features standardised sessions to evaluate participants’ digital proficiency, generate feedback for programme improvement and inform the design of future training modules tailored to community needs.

According to BICTDA, ongoing monitoring and evaluation will help track learners’ progress and support long-term digital inclusion efforts across the state.

The Digital Literacy Centres initiative seeks to bridge the digital divide, enhance socio-economic resilience and empower residents with ICT skills essential for improved livelihood opportunities.
