Fire Destroys 40 Makeshift Shelters at Mafa IDP Camp

A fire outbreak on Wednesday morning razed 40 makeshift shelters at the Mafa Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Borno State, officials said.

The incident, which occurred around 11:20 a.m. on Friday, destroyed foodstuffs and various household items belonging to displaced families taking refuge in the camp.

According to reports, officials of the Federal and State Fire Services were promptly alerted and mobilised to the scene. Patrol teams led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Mafa also joined the response effort, helping with crowd control and preventing attempts at looting.

Emergency responders successfully put out the fire, and no casualties or injuries were recorded.

Authorities say the value of items lost in the blaze is yet to be determined, while an investigation has commenced to ascertain the cause of the fire.
