Adamawa Orders Immediate Closure of Boarding Schools Over Security Concerns

The Adamawa State Government has ordered the immediate deboarding of all boarding secondary schools across the state following rising security threats targeting students in parts of the country.

The directive was contained in a circular issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Umar Garba Pella. The order affects both public and private boarding schools, which are now required to operate strictly as day schools until further notice.

According to the circular, the decision was prompted by recent attacks on schools in Niger and Kebbi States, which authorities fear may signal a growing trend of targeting boarding students.

Dr. Pella said the directive was issued on the instruction of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who expressed concern over the vulnerability of boarding facilities amid the heightened security situation. He described the development as “an ugly situation” requiring urgent preventive action to protect students.

“All principals and proprietors of public and private schools should deboard their respective boarding schools without further delay,” the circular stated.

The ministry urged school administrators to comply immediately, emphasizing that the decision was taken in the best interest of students’ safety.
