The University of Abuja (UniAbuja), now renamed Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, has announced massive academic and non-teaching vacancies as part of a new recruitment drive aimed at strengthening its workforce and enhancing academic excellence. The vacancies were published in an internal and external advertisement signed by the Acting Registrar, Sambo Mohammed, and released in the latest edition of the Daily Trust newspaper.

To qualify, academic applicants must possess minimum qualifications ranging from a Second Class Upper Division for Graduate Assistants to PhD degrees and specified numbers of peer-reviewed publications for higher academic ranks. Professorial candidates are required to have a Google Scholar h-index of 3, while Associate Professors and Senior Lecturers must present h-indices of 2 and 1 respectively.
The advertisement also notes that candidates who have never taught at university level cannot be appointed directly to the rank of Professor or Associate Professor. Evidence of academic leadership, postgraduate supervision, and the ability to attract research funding are mandatory for professorial appointments.
