Police Arrest Two Officers for Shooting at Civilian Vehicle in Adamawa

Two police officers have been taken into custody by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly opening fire on a civilian vehicle during a stop-and-search operation in Jimeta.

The Command’s spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said in a statement on Tuesday that the incident occurred at a checkpoint manned by personnel attached to the Jimeta Divisional Police Headquarters along River Side. He said the command received a report indicating unprofessional conduct by the officers on duty.

According to preliminary findings, the officers had stopped a Mercedes 180 for routine inspection but claimed the occupants resisted the search. Nguroje explained that during the encounter, one of the officers fired shots at the vehicle’s tyres—an action he described as unnecessary and contrary to police operational standards. No injuries were recorded.

He said the officers involved have been arrested and detained pending further investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered a thorough investigation into the sad incident,” the statement added.

Nguroje assured the public that the command remains committed to upholding professionalism, discipline, and respect for citizens’ rights, noting that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken at the end of the investigation.
