
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the renaming of the Federal University of Sciences, Azare, in honour of the late renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, in recognition of his enduring contributions to Islamic scholarship, moral guidance, and national unity.
The announcement was made on Friday during President Tinubu’s condolence visit to Bauchi State, where he sympathised with the family of the late cleric and offered special prayers for the repose of his soul.
President Tinubu arrived at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, Bauchi, to a warm reception by the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, alongside Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, members of the Federal Executive Council, and other top government officials.
Among the dignitaries present to receive the President were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, the Minister of Health, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, and other prominent personalities.
The President’s entourage included the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajuddeen Abbas; Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni; the President’s son, Seyi Bola Tinubu; and several other notable figures.
While extending condolences to the family of the late Sheikh, the Bauchi State Government, and the people of the state, President Tinubu described the passing of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi as a monumental loss to the nation.
He expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to him and commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his inclusive leadership, describing him as a brother who is hardworking, resilient, and determined.
Earlier, Governor Bala Mohammed thanked President Tinubu for the condolence visit and for honouring the memory of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi through the renaming of the university.
He described the gesture as a proud and historic moment for Bauchi State and Nigeria at large, adding that it reflects the late scholar’s lasting impact on education and moral values across the country.
The visit attracted a mammoth crowd of sympathisers and well-wishers, underscoring the widespread respect and admiration enjoyed by the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi and the significance of the President’s gesture.
