Adamawa Govt Urges LG Chairmen to Boost Children’s School Enrolment

The Adamawa State Government has urged chairmen of the 21 local government councils and other stakeholders in the education sector to take the lead in promoting children’s enrolment in schools across the state.

The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Umar Garba Pella, made the call at a stakeholders’ meeting on education chaired by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta.

Garba said the meeting was convened to review achievements recorded by the government in its developmental and transformational drive, while renewing commitment to improved service delivery as the year 2026 progresses.

He said the state government, which places high priority on education as a catalyst for human and societal development, had devolved the ownership and management of schools to local government chairmen to ensure learning takes place in a safe, secure and conducive environment.

According to him, the government has directed council chairmen to champion school enrolment in their respective areas to guarantee that all school-age children are enrolled.

Garba noted that increased enrolment would further justify government’s sustained investment in the provision of educational infrastructure and learning facilities across the state.

He re-emphasised that free and compulsory education remains the right of every child in Adamawa, and called on parents and guardians to ensure their children are enrolled in school.

The commissioner also informed parents and guardians that schools across the state had resumed for the academic session, with teaching and learning activities commencing on Jan. 5, 2026.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Yahyaji Mijinyawa, acknowledged the state government’s transformational initiatives in the education sector and stressed the need for parents to enrol their children, particularly in the newly constructed model schools across the 21 local government areas.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Song Local Government Area and Secretary of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, Mr Idris Yahya, pledged the commitment of council chairmen to effectively implement government policies and programmes in the education sector and other areas of human development.
