Adamawa Police arrest suspect, begin probe into alleged acid attack on teenager

The Adamawa State Police Command has commenced a full investigation into an alleged acid attack on a 17-year-old boy, Walid Kassim Mohammed, in Yola South Local Government Area of the state.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Jan. 14, 2026, when the victim reportedly ran to the Shagari Police Division in distress, claiming that he was sprayed with a substance suspected to be acidic while on his way to a mosque.

Police sources said the victim alleged that the attack was carried out by one Idris Hamza, a resident of Shagari in Yola South LGA.

Following the report, the teenager was immediately rushed to a hospital where he is currently receiving medical attention. The suspect was subsequently taken into protective custody by the police.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Dankombo Morris, PSC (+), has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case to ensure a thorough and professional investigation.

The police command assured members of the public that the case would be diligently handled and that justice would be served.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

He said further details would be made public as investigations progress.
