Shettima leads tribute to fallen heroes at Armed Forces Remembrance ceremony

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day ceremony held at the National Arcade, Abuja.

The solemn event was attended by top government officials, including the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio; the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun; the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu; as well as ministers, service chiefs and other senior government functionaries.

The annual ceremony is dedicated to honouring Nigerian military personnel who lost their lives in the defence of the country’s sovereignty and unity, as well as veterans who served with distinction.

Speaking through his presence, the Vice President paid tribute to the courage, patriotism and sacrifices of the nation’s fallen heroes, describing them as symbols of selfless service and national pride.

The Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day is marked every year to recognise the contributions of the Nigerian Armed Forces and to reaffirm the nation’s commitment to supporting serving personnel and the families of the fallen.

The ceremony featured the laying of wreaths, prayers and other symbolic activities in remembrance of those who paid the supreme price in service to Nigeria.
