The Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Bashir Tahir as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University (YSU), Damaturu.
The approval followed a recommendation by the University’s Governing Council after an extraordinary meeting held on January 15, 2026, according to a statement issued by the Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Ahmed Mustapha Goniri, Esq.
Professor Tahir is a renowned expert in general surgery and a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons. Until his new appointment, he served as the Medical Director of the Ultra-Modern Police Hospital in Damaturu.
His appointment is expected to strengthen academic leadership and promote institutional growth at the university.
