
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 14 suspected members of a notorious street gang, popularly known as Sara-suka, following intelligence-led operations across parts of the Bauchi metropolis.
According to a press statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the arrests were carried out on January 15, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., after police received credible intelligence on the activities of suspected thugs operating around Bakaro, Kofar Dumi, Tudun Yarima and Kofar Madaki areas.
The statement disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division, CSP Hassan A. Musa, personally led a patrol team that swiftly moved into the affected locations and apprehended the suspects.
Those arrested, aged between 18 and 22, were identified as residents of Kofar Dumi, Karofin Madaki, Tudun Yarima and Bakaro areas of Bauchi metropolis.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to criminal conspiracy, admitting that they armed themselves with dangerous weapons including machetes and sharp knives to attack residents in the targeted areas. Police said the suspects violently assaulted victims, dispossessed them of mobile phones and cash, and inflicted injuries on those who resisted.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, psc (+), mni, commended members of the public for their continued cooperation and support, noting that timely intelligence remains crucial in combating crime.
The police commissioner further urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies, assuring that the command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, the police said.
