Security Operatives Foil Attempt to Recruit Over 40 Minors into Terrorism in Borno

Security operatives have successfully intercepted an attempt to recruit more than 40 underage children into terrorist activities in Borno State.

The operation led to the arrest of three suspected trainers linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

A credible security source told Yerwa Express News that most of the children, aged between 15 and 18, were intercepted while being transported from Maiduguri to Adamawa State for terrorist training, including preparation for suicide bombings and coordinated attacks.

“The children were being prepared for onward movement to Adamawa. We intercepted more than 40 boys within the ages of 15 and 18. They are currently in the custody of military personnel for further investigation,” the source said.

The arrested suspects are believed to be ISWAP operatives who mobilized and gathered the youths from Banki community for the recruitment drive.

This incident highlights the ongoing exploitation of minors by terrorist groups in Nigeria’s North-East, where children under 18 are increasingly targeted for indoctrination and deployment in violent attacks.

Recent events underscore the trend. Several bombings involving young recruits have been recorded in the region, including a deadly attack on a mosque in Gamboru Market, Borno State, which left multiple casualties. The ringleader of that attack, along with 14 other suspects, has since been apprehended.

Authorities continue to urge community members to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to prevent further recruitment and attacks.
