An unidentified group of criminals has allegedly killed a pregnant woman in Kaleri community, Jere Local Government Area of Borno State.
The incident occurred on Sunday at the residence of the victim, identified simply as Fatima.
Residents told newsmen that the woman, who was said to be about seven months pregnant, was discovered lifeless in her home at about 6:00 p.m. under circumstances suspected to be criminal.
Sources in the area alleged that the attackers assaulted the victim before killing her, though details surrounding the incident remain unclear.
It was further learnt that the husband of the deceased, who was reportedly out of the country on business in the Republic of Chad, has been informed and is expected back in Maiduguri ahead of burial arrangements.
As at the time of filing this report, the police and other security agencies were yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Residents of the area called for a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice and to strengthen security in the community.
