The Gombe State Ministry for Local Government and Community Development, in collaboration with the Institute of Conflict Management and Negotiation (ICNM), has organised a three-day capacity-building training for councillors, security officials and traditional institution secretaries to strengthen peacebuilding efforts across the state.

The training, which commenced on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, was held at the Laila Hotel Hall, Gombe, and brought together councillors from the state’s 11 local government areas, Divisional Security Officers (DSOs), as well as secretaries of Gombe State Emirs and Chiefs.

The programme was designed to enhance participants’ knowledge and practical skills in conflict prevention, management and negotiation, with a focus on promoting peaceful coexistence at the grassroots level.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Alhaji Abdulkadir Muhammad Waziri (Wazirin Akko), underscored the importance of proactive conflict management in fostering unity and sustainable development. He urged participants to serve as peace ambassadors in their respective communities.

In recognition of his contributions to peacebuilding and community development, Alhaji Waziri was honoured and decorated as a Fellow of the Institute of Conflict Management and Negotiation during the event.

Resource persons drawn from academia and the Nigeria Police Force delivered lectures and facilitated practical sessions on leadership, conflict resolution strategies, security management and effective community engagement.

The training attracted key government officials, traditional leaders and other stakeholders, making it an interactive and impactful forum for dialogue and learning.

At the close of the programme, participants were encouraged to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to promote peace, unity and sustainable development across Gombe State.
