Fire outbreaks have ravaged communities in three Local Government Areas of Yobe State, destroying homes, market stalls and food reserves.
The affected communities include Bukarti in Yunusari Local Government Area, Fuchimiram and Kalgeri in Geidam Local Government Area, as well as Gumsamari in Yusufari Local Government Area.
Preliminary assessment by the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) indicates that several market stalls and residential buildings were burnt, leaving many families without shelter, sources of livelihood and food supplies.
Residents said the fires spread rapidly, forcing many to flee with little or no belongings.
Although the cause of the incidents has yet to be officially determined, some residents attributed the outbreaks to the sudden return of fast-moving harmattan winds, which may have fanned the flames.
SEMA officials said further assessment was ongoing to determine the extent of damage and identify immediate relief needs.
The agency assured that government and humanitarian partners were working to provide assistance to affected families.
