Muhammed-Gumel disclosed this during an interactive session with staff of the university, where he outlined his administration’s academic roadmap aimed at aligning FUD with 21st-century demands.
He said the proposed programmes would include Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science and Analytics, Networking and Cloud Computing, Project Management, Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain, Geology, Climate-Smart Agriculture, Optometry, Physiotherapy, Community Health, Science Education and Business Education, among others.
According to the vice-chancellor, the move is driven by the need to revise and modernise the university’s curricula to meet the benchmarks of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and respond to global digital transformation in teaching and learning.
“To achieve academic excellence in the 21st century, we must embrace innovation and review our programmes to make them market-driven and globally relevant,” he said.
Muhammed-Gumel said his Vision 2030 agenda is to transform FUD into “a nationally and globally competitive university with market-driven and cutting-edge academic programmes that will make our graduates employable and employers of labour.”
He urged academic staff to prepare for the reforms, noting that the next five years would witness far-reaching changes in academic programming and institutional development.
The vice-chancellor expressed confidence that the university possesses the required manpower and institutional support to implement the proposed reforms.
“With competitive academic programmes, cutting-edge research and productive global partnerships, FUD can strengthen its place among universities ranked in the big league,” he added.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to positioning the university within the global academic landscape through innovation, quality assurance and strategic collaborations.
