Just In: Fintiri dumps PDP for APC, moves entire cabinet to ruling party

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the developmental interest of the state as reason for his decision.

Fintiri announced his defection in a statewide broadcast on Friday, declaring that he had formally resigned his membership of the PDP and registered with the APC.

The governor said he moved to the ruling party alongside members of his cabinet and other key PDP officials in the state.

“This decision was taken after wide consultations and in the overall interest of Adamawa State. Our priority remains the development, unity and progress of our people,” he said.

Fintiri added that aligning with the APC at the federal level would enhance cooperation and attract more dividends of democracy to the state.

Shortly after the broadcast, images surfaced showing the governor displaying his APC membership card, reportedly bearing registration number 001, as well as holding the party’s symbolic broom.

Party sources confirmed that top government functionaries and political appointees in the state had also concluded arrangements to join the APC.

The defection marks a significant political shift in Adamawa, a state that has been under PDP leadership for years.

As of the time of filing this report, the national leadership of the PDP had yet to issue an official statement on the development.

Further details are expected.
