FG deploys reinforcements as Shettima condemns Borno attacks

Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government will not be intimidated by recent insurgent attacks in Borno State, declaring that efforts to undermine the country’s peace will fail.

Shettima gave the assurance on Saturday while reacting to recent attacks by insurgents in parts of the state, including abductions in Ngoshe and coordinated assaults on military formations in Konduga, Marte, Jakana and Mainok.

In a statement issued by Mr Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Shettima said the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu remained resolute in protecting lives and property across the country.

He said the president had been fully briefed on the situation and had directed a swift and comprehensive mobilisation of Nigeria’s security architecture to confront the threats.

According to the vice president, the Federal Government is already deploying additional tactical assets and intelligence-driven reinforcements to affected areas.

“The events of the past few days are a painful reminder of the shadow that persists, but let it be known: we choose light over shadow and hope over despair,” he said.

Shettima stressed that the government would not tolerate any safe haven for insurgents seeking to displace communities or occupy any part of Nigerian territory.

He assured that those responsible for the attacks would face the full wrath of the law.

“We are not just fighting a war. We are defending the very soul of our humanity against those who preach a toxic rhetoric of hate, and we will not be cowed by their acts,” he added.

The vice president expressed sympathy for families affected by the attacks and for soldiers who lost their lives while defending the country.

“Our hearts bleed for the families and the brave soldiers who paid the supreme price in the line of duty. This administration will not rest until abducted citizens safely reunite with their families,” he said.

Shettima also commended the resilience of the government and people of the state under Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum and praised the gallantry of troops fighting on the frontlines.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring lasting peace and security across the region.

“The sanctity of human life is non-negotiable. This madness will be brought to an end, not with empty words, but with the decisive and overwhelming force of the Nigerian State,” Shettima said.
