Vigilante Members, Not Soldiers, Linked to Ngomari Killing

Authorities have debunked earlier reports alleging that soldiers were responsible for the death of a young woman hit by a stray bullet in Ngomari area of Maiduguri, clarifying that the incident involved members of a vigilante group.

Security sources said the tragic incident occurred during a wedding celebration in Ngomari, where members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) reportedly discharged firearms, leading to the fatal stray bullet that struck the victim.

They explained that initial reports circulating on social media had wrongly accused soldiers of involvement in the incident.

“The earlier claim that soldiers killed the victim is false. The incident was carried out by members of a vigilante group celebrating at a wedding in Ngomari,” the sources stated.

According to the authorities, all suspects linked to the incident have since been arrested and are currently in custody, where they are answering for their alleged roles in the unlawful discharge of firearms.

The sources assured residents that justice would be served, adding that further details, including the identities of those arrested, would be made public as investigations continue.

Residents have called for caution in the handling of firearms during social events and urged the public to verify information before sharing unconfirmed reports.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
