Emir Backs Women Empowerment Initiative in Gombe

The Emir of Gombe has reaffirmed his commitment to the success of the Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) in Gombe State, describing the initiative as a key driver for improving the economic wellbeing of women and their families.

The monarch made the pledge when the NFWP-SU Gombe State team paid him a courtesy visit at his palace as part of ongoing stakeholder engagement and advocacy efforts.

He commended the programme and pledged the full support of the emirate in mobilising communities, assuring that traditional institutions would play an active role in ensuring effective implementation of the project across the state.

Earlier, the State Project Coordinator, Hauwa Adamu Saraki, said the visit was aimed at formally introducing the project and securing the backing of traditional leaders to enhance grassroots participation, particularly among women.

Saraki also acknowledged the strong support of the Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, noting that his administration remained committed to policies and programmes promoting women’s economic empowerment and sustainable community development.

She explained that the project was designed to empower women through the formation of Women Affinity Groups, alongside training in financial literacy, savings and loan management, and other livelihood support initiatives aimed at boosting household incomes and strengthening economic resilience.

Saraki stressed the importance of traditional rulers in fostering community acceptance and participation, describing them as critical partners in the success of grassroots development initiatives.

In recognition of his commitment, she announced the Emir as the Champion of the project, highlighting his role in driving awareness and support for the initiative across the state.
