The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) says its ongoing 2026 renegotiation meeting with the Federal Government has reached a crucial stage, with deliberations focusing on improved conditions of service and statutory allowances.
This is contained in an update issued by SSANU and signed by Comrade Chukwuanugo Ibeto for the General Secretary on Thursday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the seventh meeting in the renegotiation series was held on Wednesday, April 8, where discussions centred on conditions of service and the review of statutory earned allowances, including other special allowances.
It added that the meeting was adjourned for one week following an offer made by the Federal Government, with both negotiation teams mandated to consult further with their respective principals.
“In view of the above, a Special Meeting of the National Executive Council is hereby summoned,” the statement said.
The union disclosed that members of the National Executive Council are expected to arrive on April 17, while the meeting is scheduled to hold on April 18, with departure slated for April 19.
The update noted that further consultations by both parties are expected ahead of the next round of negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement on welfare and service conditions for university workers.
