
The Federal Government has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative aimed at boosting skills acquisition and employment opportunities nationwide.
The programme, coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Education Nigeria, will officially open for applications on April 13, 2026.
According to programme guidelines, applicants can select between two training pathways based on their educational background and skill level.
The first option, the Short-Term Certificate (STC) Programme, will run for six months and is designed for beginners, school leavers and individuals without formal education.
The STC programme focuses on rapid skills acquisition to enable participants secure employment within a short period.
The second option, the Vocational Education and Innovation (VEI) Programme, will last for one year and is intended for individuals with some level of education or prior skills.
The VEI programme is structured to help participants improve and formalise existing knowledge through structured vocational training.
Eligibility requirements for the STC programme include possession of a valid National Identification Number and Bank Verification Number, while no formal education is required.
For the VEI programme, applicants must present at least one of the following: proof of prior skills or apprenticeship under Recognition of Prior Learning, a First School Leaving Certificate, or any recognised non-formal education certificate.
The Federal Government said the initiative formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen technical education, reduce unemployment and promote entrepreneurship across the country.
Interested applicants are advised to submit their applications through the official portal at https://tvet.education.gov.ng beginning April 13, 2026.
