The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of a College of Medical Sciences at Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, in Adamawa State.
Leader of the NUC verification panel, Auwal Abubakar, disclosed this after an inspection of facilities in and around the university.
Abubakar said the panel was satisfied with the facilities available for the take-off of the medical college but stressed the need to strengthen manpower for the proposed departments.
The Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Kaletapwa Farauta, who received the panel, assured the commission of the state government’s continued support toward achieving the university’s goals, including the establishment of the medical college.
Farauta noted that the development aligned with the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the state.
She said the health sector remained a priority of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, adding that the establishment of the medical college and its teaching hospital would significantly expand access to quality healthcare services.
The deputy governor also disclosed that the existing Specialist Hospital Yola was being considered for expansion and upgrade to serve as the teaching hospital for the proposed college.
The establishment of the medical college is expected to boost medical education and strengthen healthcare manpower development in Adamawa State.
