
Police in Borno State have launched a manhunt for a man accused of attacking his wife with an axe and inflicting serious injuries on her in Maiduguri.
The suspect, identified as Adam Jidda, allegedly attacked his wife, Maimuna Adam, at about 5:30 a.m. on June 12.
Sources said the suspect, who was reportedly battling a mental health condition, struck the victim with an axe, leaving her with severe injuries to the right side of her face.
Following a report of the incident, the Divisional Police Officer of the GRA Division led a patrol team to the scene, where preliminary investigations were carried out and photographs taken for evidential purposes.
The victim was subsequently evacuated to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Police authorities said the suspect fled the scene shortly after the attack and remains at large.
Security operatives have since intensified efforts to track down and arrest the suspect, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
The police have not yet disclosed the motive behind the attack.
