The College of Education (CoE) Zing has on Monday received an accreditation team from the National Commission of College of Education to commence full accreditation of some 31 programmes in the institution.
Receiving the team led by Dr. Umar Adamu Kwami, Director of Academic programme of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), the Provost of the College, Prof. Ejika Sambo, expressed optimism that at the end of the exercise all the 31 courses at the college would receive Full accreditation.
He was also so delighted over the visit of the team, saying they had done everything humanly possible in terms of human resources and infrastructure to host the accreditation process. According to the Provost, the planning committee of the college had been working day and night to ensure that all arrangements were in place.
He also expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for the support he granted to the institution to enable them to under go the exercise.
Also speaking to journalists at the college before the commencement of the exercise, the leader of the team, Dr. Umar Adamu Kwami, said the essence of the exercise was to maintain a good standard in the training of teachers in Nigeria.
He added that they were not in the college for witch-hunting but to improve what was on the ground and to offer advice on how to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
According to the leader of the team, who is also the representative of the Executive Secretary of the Commission, accreditation of teachers’ education programme was one of the major mandates of NCCE, adding that quality assurance and programme improvement were core to this mandate.
