The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has enforced a ban on the sale and utilization of Dex Luxury Bar Soap in Yobe state. This decision was prompted by the presence of butylphenyl methylpropional, a chemical deemed harmful, in the soap.
Mr. Lawan Musa Dadingelma, the Yobe State Coordinator of NAFDAC, conveyed to journalists in Damaturu that the European Union (EU) identified Dex Luxury Bar Soap (No 6 Mystic Flower), manufactured in Turkey, as containing BMHCA, a substance prohibited in cosmetics due to its potential adverse effects on the human reproductive system and skin.
Additionally, Dadingelma disclosed that NAFDAC has also prohibited the distribution and use of Benylin Pediatrics Syrup, produced by Johnson and Johnson, with batch number 329304.
This product, manufactured in May 2021 and set to expire in April 2024, has been flagged for regulatory non-compliance.
In light of these developments, the coordinator emphasized the importance of vigilance among distributors, retailers, and consumers to prevent the circulation and usage of substandard and regulated products.
Dadingelma urged the populace to source medical products exclusively from authorized and licensed suppliers, while exercising diligence in verifying the authenticity and physical condition of products before use.
