The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted and seized 41,425 liters of petrol from smugglers operating in Adamawa and neighboring Cameroon. The seizures were made by the Operation Whirlwind arm of the NCS between May and July 2024.
Comptroller Hussein Ejibunu, National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, disclosed that nine vehicles used by the smugglers were also confiscated. The seized petrol was stored in 1,481 kegs and 20 drums, with a cumulative duty value of N48,547,500.
Ejibunu stated that Customs operatives worked in collaboration with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to monitor the supply and distribution chain of petrol. The seizures were made at various locations, including the Mubi-Sahuda road, Girei-Wuro Boki axis, and Maiha road.
