The Director-General of GOGIS, Dr. Kabiru Usman Hassan, has led a stakeholder visit to the proposed site for the International Livestock Market and Ultra-Modern Abattoir, marking the commencement of compensation assessment for affected property owners.
The project, part of the Gombe State Government’s Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (El-Pres) in partnership with the World Bank, aims to expand the livestock business and create job opportunities for youths in the state.
During the visit on Tuesday, Dr. Hassan clarified the recent Executive Order 4A, which expands the state’s metropolitan radius, confirming the proposed site falls within Gombe metropolis, not Kwami LGA as previously perceived.
Assuring fair and transparent compensation, Dr. Hassan emphasized the government’s commitment to established guidelines and timely payments.
Affected property owners appreciated the efforts toward transparency and fairness, acknowledging the project’s potential economic benefits and job creation.
However, they urged expedited compensation to minimize livelihood disruptions. Dr. Hassan reiterated GOGIS’s commitment to a fair, transparent, and efficient process, encouraging community cooperation for the project’s success.
The visit concluded with a joint commitment to ensure smooth implementation, protecting all stakeholders’ interests.
