The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested seven individuals in connection with the vandalization of critical pipeline infrastructure belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The arrests, made on October 25, 2024, follow intelligence provided by a local resident, which led to the recovery of 53 pieces of vandalized pipelines.
The suspects have been identified as:
1. Umar Musa, 40, resident of Kaduna Road, Abuja
2. Mohammed Hassan, 25, resident of Kasuwan Shanu, Potiskum, Yobe State
3. Adamu Abdullahi, 28, resident of Bununu Funai, Yobe State
4. Yakubu Adamu, 27, resident of Sabon Layi, Potiskum, Yobe State
5. Gabriel Wale, 40, resident of Mafoluku Oshodi, Lagos State
6. Abubakar Garba, 40, resident of Anwan Losa, Kaduna State
7. Aliyu Muhammad, 28, resident of Darazo Local Government, Bauchi State
According to police statements, the group conspired to damage and steal vital pipeline infrastructure. This act of vandalism threatens public safety and constitutes economic sabotage, affecting the stability of a critical resource linking Adamawa and southern regions of Nigeria.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, commended the community’s role in providing essential information, emphasizing that collaboration between law enforcement and citizens is essential for securing public assets.
The police have assured the public that thorough investigations are underway, and efforts are in progress to identify and apprehend any additional accomplices.
