Gombe Media Goes Digital in Northeast

The Gombe Media Corporation (GMC) has announced the completion of its digital television and radio transformation, positioning it as a leader in broadcasting in Northeast Nigeria.

The Director-General of GMC, Mr. Ibrahim Isa, disclosed this during a facility tour by the Secretary to the Gombe State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, on Thursday in Gombe.

Isa said the corporation was in a deplorable state when he assumed office last year, with outdated equipment, power challenges, and inconsistent operations.

“Our studios were in shambles, equipment obsolete, and operations frequently disrupted by power outages and the high cost of diesel. These challenges crippled our capacity to function effectively,” he said.

He noted that with the intervention of Gov. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the corporation has undergone significant upgrades, including the installation of modern equipment and state-of-the-art digital studios for both radio and television.

Transformation Highlights

Isa said the upgrades include a new 5KV transmitter for television, 45KW solar power for the radio station, and fully digitized studios equipped with modern PDZ cameras, additional news-gathering equipment, and staff training facilities.

“The television station now operates 24 hours and is accessible on StarTimes and NIGCOMSAT platforms,” he said.

He described the development as a “Media Technological Revolution,” adding that the transformation had boosted staff morale and restored the corporation’s competitiveness.

Appeal for Support

Isa, however, appealed for additional government support, including security lights for the premises and renovations to the aging facility that houses the corporation and other government agencies.

In his remarks, Prof. Njodi commended Gov. Yahaya for his commitment to transforming GMC, describing the improvements as a testament to the governor’s foresight in appointing capable leaders.

With these developments, GMC is set to deliver uninterrupted and high-quality broadcasting services to audiences across the Northeast.
